The Illinois Junior Academy of Science (IJAS) is a statewide organization that fosters scientific exploration and discovery for middle school students in grades 6 through 8. It encourages students to engage in independent research projects, helping them develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Participants work under the guidance of teachers, conducting experiments, gathering data, and writing research papers to present at the annual IJAS science fair.
In addition to research papers, students create posters to visually communicate their findings. The competition provides a platform for young scientists to showcase their work, receive feedback from professionals in the field, and gain recognition for their achievements. The event is designed to inspire a lifelong passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Our school consistently achieves excellent results, with 2024 marking a standout year where we won 1st place in both the paper and poster sessions. We are proud of our students’ hard work and dedication, which continues to drive our success in this prestigious competition.
